Russian kamikaze drones crossed the Romanian border during an attack on the port on the Danube River in the city of Izmail.

The Mayor of the Cetalkoi commune in the border town of Tulcea said that Russian drones flew over the houses of local residents.

He also reported that according to local residents and Danube sailors, one of the drones fell in the Romanian forest, but its wreckage was never found.

After the Russian attack on the border port, the Ministry of Defense of Romania declared that there were no direct military threats to the country.

“As for the security situation near the borders of Romania, according to the assessments of the responsible structures of the Ministry of National Defense, there is currently no possibility of direct military threats to the national territory or territorial waters of Romania,” the ministry said.

In addition, the Ministry of Defense of Romania strongly condemned the Russian attacks on the civilian population and critical infrastructure of Ukraine.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense also announced the strengthening of the country’s eastern borders.

“The Ministry of National Defense, together with similar structures in allied countries and NATO, will continue to strengthen joint defense on the entire eastern flank and deter any aggression against allied territory,” the Romanian Ministry of Defense said.

The nearest settlement to the port in Izmail is the village of Plauru, which is located less than six hundred meters from the port infrastructure.
