The Russian Embassy in Australia has warned that deploying an Australian peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine would lead to “serious consequences,” according to a report by The Guardian.

The Russian embassy in Australia said that western boots on the ground are ‘unacceptable’ and the statement is not a threat but a ‘warning.’

“Russia has repeatedly made it clear that foreign military presence in Ukraine is totally unacceptable. Therefore, the idea of deploying Western military contingents in Ukraine under the guise of peacekeepers is meant to undermine peace efforts. Canberra remains firmly on the side of war along with those in Europe who are betting on continuing and escalating the conflict despite encouraging shifts towards peace negotiations,” the statement reads.

The embassy stressed that the presence of Western military forces in Ukraine is unacceptable and that Moscow will not remain passive in this situation.

It also clarified that the statement should not be viewed as a threat but rather as a warning. Russia assured that it has no intention of causing harm to Australian citizens.

According to the Russian side, Canberra can easily avoid trouble by simply refraining from irresponsible adventurism in the “special military operation” zone.

In early March, it was reported that Australia was ready to consider a proposal to send peacekeepers to Ukraine if such a request was received.

Prime Minister Albanese stated, ‘Discussions are ongoing regarding the potential deployment of peacekeepers to Ukraine, and my government is open to considering any future proposals.’

The Prime Minister emphasized that Canberra seeks peace in Ukraine while also ensuring that Russia’s “illegal and immoral aggression” does not occur again.

According to Prime Minister Albanese, Australia has contributed $1.4 billion in direct military assistance to Ukraine and remains committed to supporting Ukraine in its defense against Russia’s invasion.

In addition to Australia, Switzerland, Italy, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Türkiye, Ireland, Lithuania, and Canada have already announced the possibility of sending peacekeepers.
