The Russian Air Force began to use gravity bombs in the war against Ukraine, which are equipped with a flight adjustment module.
A Russian FAB-500 bomb was recently dropped on Donetsk, near which a local resident discovered the remains of this module.
A bomb that did not explode was found on one of the streets of the Kuibyshevsky district.
Presumably, it fell from a Russian bomber due to a technical malfunction.
A few hundred meters from the bomb, a gliding, and adjustment module was found, which, by design, makes a high-precision munition from a conventional unmanaged aerial bomb.
The Russian defense industry has been creating a new model of precision aviation ammunition for a long time.
Tactical Missiles Corporation has been working on the so-called guided complex of missile and bomb weapons with the cypher “Grom” for several years.
The project proposed the creation of a set of means by which bombs or missiles with different technical characteristics and combat qualities could be converted into high-precision weapons.
One variant of the project offered a cylindrical compartment in which navigation, control, and guidance devices would be located. A long fairing is fixed on top of this compartment, which connects it to other devices. The narrow longitudinal fairing has cusps for suspending the rocket/bomb onto the carrier.
It was suggested to hang a flat casing with mounts for the folding wing under the warhead module.
The planning and control module is equipped with a satellite navigation system. In flight, the module determines its location and, after making the necessary calculations, corrects the flight path.
Recall that the United States will provide Ukraine with JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munition) kits, which turn conventional aerial bombs into all-weather adjusted smart ammunition.
