Russia’s Foreign Ministry has warned of “serious consequences” if the United States proceeds with the possible transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated this, as quoted by RBC.
Ryabkov urged Washington to take a “responsible approach” to any decision on supplying long-range weapons.
He claimed that the use of such systems would require the “direct participation of American personnel,” adding that Moscow hopes U.S. officials “understand the depth and gravity of the consequences” if Tomahawks are delivered to Kyiv.
Ryabkov mentioned that Moscow expects a “responsible and sober approach” from the White House and the Pentagon.
His remarks followed comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who earlier this week stated that he was close to a decision on transferring Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
Trump added that he wanted to understand how the weapons would be used to avoid escalation.
“I’ve already made a decision, if you think about it. Yes, I think I want to know what they’re going to do with them, where they’re going to send them. I would ask that question… I’ll ask the question. I don’t want to see an escalation,” Trump said in response to a reporter’s question about potential missile supplies to Ukraine.
In late September, during a closed meeting with Trump at the UN General Assembly in New York, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reportedly requested the supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles.
Zelensky argued that such a move could increase the chances of a ceasefire.
He believes that merely having the capability to launch long-range strikes on Russian territory — including Moscow — could strengthen Ukraine’s negotiating position, even without the actual use of the missiles.
