In 2026, Russia ordered 100 guided artillery shells of 122 mm caliber under the unknown index KV122 — likely “Kitolov-2M.”

This is stated in Russian procurement documents, which Militarnyi received at its disposal.

The ammunition is manufactured by JSC “Design Bureau of Instrument Making” in Tula. The cost of one shell is estimated at 5,710,000 rubles, or approximately $71,000.

The Kitolov-2M is designed for use with 122-mm D-30 and 2S1 Gvozdika artillery systems.

Like the 152-mm Krasnopol, this ammunition is equipped with a passive infrared homing head that corrects the flight path to the point of the reflected laser beam.

The maximum effective firing range of the Kitolov-2M is 12 km, which is half that of the Krasnopol. The shell contains 5.3 kg of explosive, while 152-mm ammunition has between 9 and 11 kg, depending on the modification.

In April 2025, the Kalashnikov Concern announced an increase in the production of Kytolov-2M guided shells. High-precision ammunition began to be manufactured at new production sites opened at the end of last year.
