Russia has started using 122-mm artillery shells that resemble Chinese-made shells.
OSINT accounts reported about this on X (Twitter).
The long-range artillery 122-mm OF-56IM-1m high-explosive shells, which the Russian army has started to receive for 122-mm D-30 howitzers, have some similarities to Chinese 122-mm shells.
It is not yet clear whether these shells are produced in Russia or whether China is providing them directly as part of its assistance.
It should be noted that the new OF-56IM-1m shells have a 4 km longer range than conventional 122 mm high-explosive shells.
According to Russian sources, the delivery of new shells has helped overcome a severe shortage, as the rate of production in Russia is low.
In addition to Chinese shells, on the front lines, Russia is actively using artillery shells produced by the DPRK, actively supplied from this country to the artillery units of the invaders on the territory of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, stated this at a special meeting of the European Council.
“They are already terrorizing our cities, in addition to the Iranian Shaheds that are destroying our civilian infrastructure. Intelligence confirms that Russia will receive a million artillery shells from Pyongyang,” Zelensky said.
The main advantage of DPRK-made ammunition is that it can be used with Soviet-era artillery systems.
It should also be noted that, according to Western intelligence, the DPRK has supplied Russia with more than 1 million artillery shells of various calibers.
The calculation of Frontelligence Insight OSINT analysts indicates that the lower bar of the number of delivered shells is 500,000, based on 2,000 shipped containers at the end of October 2023. The calculation was made for 122mm and 152mm HE-Frag projectiles with sets of RGM-2 fuses for them.
