The Russian military used the Iranian attack drones against the objects in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

The National Police of Ukraine reported that the attack at the Nikopol district was carried out at night on September 15.

“The enemy fired with MLRS and barrel artillery and the kamikaze drones at the city of Nikopol from the Zaporizhzhia region,” the police report said.

Depots, two enterprises, and a sanatorium were damaged.

The preliminary reports also mention the damage to 10 residential houses, farm buildings, and a gas pipeline.

Also, during the night, the villages in the Marhanets community suffered enemy shelling, which damaged the power lines.

Currently, investigative and operational police teams are working at the sites of the strikes.

At the site, the Ukrainian police found debris from the strike drone.

The released photos suggest that the Russian military used the Iranian Shahed 136 drone, which was designated “Geran-2” in Russia.

This Iranian drone was first detected on the territory of Ukraine on September 13 this year.

Similar drones under the name “Wa’id” are assembled from the Iranian components by the Houthis in Yemen.

Shahed 136 loitering munition is not highly accurate, not high-powered, not inconspicuous, yet a very unpleasant weapon.

In 2021, Iran demonstrated the multiple launch possibility of these loitering munitions from a launcher disguised as a cargo car container.

Containers with such drones can be easily mounted not only on trucks, but also on railway train cars, various ships, and other mobile vehicles.

Presumably, the effective flight range of Shahed 136 drone is over 1,000 kilometers, with the ability to deliver a warhead weighing 50 kilograms. The stated maximum flight range is 2,500 kilometers.

The drone can fly at an altitude between 60 to 4000 meters with a cruising speed of about 180 km/h. The UAV has a loud MD 550 or 3W engine, therefore the impact drone can be heard for kilometers. The drone can be destroyed by any means of air defense and can be detected with the help of radar.

Iran produces them for mass use against one target or a group of such.
