Russia could not properly use its Airborne Forces in Ukraine, which led to significant losses among multiple elite units of these troops.

This is reported by “European Pravda” with reference to the intelligence review of the Ministry of Defense of the UK.

British intelligence notes that the Airborne Forces of Russia were seriously engaged in several significant tactical failures from the very beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion.

They include an attempt to attack Kyiv through Hostomel airfield in March, a stalled offensive in the Izium direction, and a recent unsuccessful and expensive attempt of crossing the Siverskyi Donets river.

The Russian doctrine involves the use of Airborne Forces to perform some of the most complex operations.

The Russian Airborne Forces amount to 45 thousand people and consist mostly of professional contractors. The military of these units is benefiting from the elite status and receiving additional payment.

“However, in Ukraine, Russia used its paratroopers in missions that were better suited for heavy armored infantry, thus these units suffered heavy losses during the campaign,” the intelligence said.

In addition, the report notes that the ambiguous results of the paratroopers probably reflect the strategic mismanagement of this potential and Russia’s inability to provide air superiority.

“The misuse of the Airborne Forces in Ukraine shows how Putin’s significant funding to the armed forces over the past 15 years has led to unbalanced general forces. The inability to predict the resistance of Ukrainians and the subsequent self-immolation of Russian commanders led to significant losses across many elite units of Russia,” stated the British intelligence review.

Recently, soldiers of the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine neutralized the Russian invaders from the 76th Air Assault Division of the Airborne Forces of the Russian Armed Forces stationed in the city of Pskov. Two combat vehicles and fourteen invaders were destroyed.

Ukrainian military released videos and photos of destroyed military equipment and eliminated invaders, as well as personal documents of Russian invaders.

Russian Airborne Forces are a separate branch of the Russian Armed Forces, which are created to perform tasks in the rear of the enemy along with other assignments.
