Russia has expanded its air defense ring around Moscow with towers, closing gaps in its defenses.
A map of the positions was published by jembob on X.
Between May and September 2025, approximately 43 new specialized towers for air defense systems were erected around Moscow.
These structures are designed to house Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and gun systems to combat Ukrainian drones and missiles.
The use of high-altitude towers allows for an expanded radius of detection and engagement of small targets flying at low altitudes.
The strengthening of the Russian capital’s air defense system may be related to the increased range and effectiveness of Ukrainian cruise missiles and drones.
Ukrainian long-range weapons are penetrating deeper and deeper into Russian airspace, overcoming its air defense and hitting important strategic targets. Against this backdrop, Moscow is likely concerned that the Russian capital itself could become one of the potential targets of future massive attacks.
The towers consist of embankments on which slabs were laid, and towers or metal structures on which anti-aircraft missile and gun systems were installed.
It should be noted that the Pantsir-S1 completely loses its mobility on these structures.
Previously, in Moscow, a 14-year-old teenager attempted to assassinate leading employees of the strategic defense enterprise Polyus named after M.F. Stelmakh.
The victims of the attack were 70-year-old scientists Vladimir Simakov and Alexander Lobintsev, who have been developing semiconductor lasers and components for the latest Russian weapons, including the Oreshnik system, for decades.
