On Monday, August 5, at about 11.00 p.m., Russians launched a missile attack in the direction of Kyiv and the suburbs.

According to the Air Force, the invaders used four Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles.

The Kyiv City Military Administration reports that air defense forces and equipment were operating in the capital and on the outskirts of the city.

Russian missiles were launched at the Kyiv region from the Voronezh region of the Russian Federation. As a result of the Ukrainian air defense’s efforts, two ballistic missiles were shot down.

On Tuesday morning, the Colonel GSh Telegram channel published a photo of a fragment of an allegedly DPRK-made Hwasong-11 (KN-23) ballistic missile, which was found at the site of the enemy missile crash. It is noted that these missiles are made of low-quality components.

It is worth noting that this is the second Russian strike by North Korean ballistic missiles against the Kyiv region in recent times.

During a missile attack on the night of July 31, the Russian invaders also used a KN-23 ballistic missile manufactured by the DPRK, Defense Express reports.

The missile was launched from Russia’s territory in the direction of Bila Tserkva but fell in the Kyiv region.

At the crash site, the wreckage was found with markings consistent with the previously discovered wreckage of KN-23 ballistic missiles, which the Russians had already used to strike Ukraine. At the same time, about half of the North Korean missiles that Russia launched at Ukraine did not reach their targets.

Also at the end of April, the UN confirmed that Russia struck Kharkiv with a North Korean-made missile. The wreckage of the missile that was found after the attack on the Ukrainian city on January 2, 2024, was from a North Korean Hwasong-11 series ballistic missile.

Russia’s use of these weapons is a direct violation of Security Council sanctions that impose an arms embargo on North Korea.

The North Korean Hwasong-11 (KN-23) is actually a copy of the Russian 9M723 ballistic missile of the Iskander system, but it has a number of technical and visual differences. The obvious ones include the structural differences in the tail part.
