The Ministry of National Defence of Romania does not confirmed the fact of the flight of a Russian cruise missile over its territory.
The official statement appeared on the official website of the Ministry of National Defence of this country.
They assure that a Russian missile has not crossed Romania’s airspace today.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense says that the aerial surveillance system of the country’s Air Force detected on Friday, February 10, an aerial target launched from a ship of the Russian Federation in the Black Sea near the Crimean Peninsula.
However, most likely, the cruise missile, which first crossed the airspace of Ukraine and Moldova, and then re-entered the airspace of Ukraine, never crossed the airspace of Romania.
“The closest point of the air target’s flight path to the airspace of Romania was recorded by radar systems approximately 35 kilometers northeast of the border,” the statement emphasizes.
It is noted that the Romanian authorities applied all standard procedures from the moment of detection of the aerial object to the full clarification of the situation.
At 10:38 a.m., two MiG-21 LanceR fighter jets of the Air Force of Romania, participating in the NATO-led patrol of the country’s space, performed a training flight and were redirected to the northern part of Romania to be ready to respond to a possible emergency situation.
“Approximately two minutes later, the situation was clarified and these two planes resumed their initial mission,” the Romanian Ministry of National Defense explained.
This morning, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, announced that two Russian Kalibr cruise missiles crossed the air border of Ukraine with Moldova and also flew in the airspace of Romania.
“At 10:18 a.m., February 10, 2023, two Russian Kalibr cruise missiles crossed the state border between Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. Around 10:33 a.m., these missiles crossed Romania’s air space. After that, they re-entered the air space of Ukraine at the crossing point of the borders of the three states,” the statement said.
The Ministry of Defense of Moldova has also confirmed the violation of the country’s airspace. It was reported that at 10:18 a.m. a Russian missile flew over the village of Mokra (in the Rybnytsky district, Transnistria), and then over Kosautsy (in the Sorok district). After the flight of Russian missiles, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova summoned the Russian ambassador.
