The German defense conglomerate Rheinmetall has announced ambitious plans to significantly increase the production of Boxer armored personnel carriers at its plant in Kassel.

The publication Hartpunkt reported on this.

The company intends to achieve a production volume of over 500 Boxer APCs annually, which will be a key step in expanding manufacturing capacities to meet the growing demand for modern military equipment.

Production will take place at the new plant in Kassel. In view of the large-scale orders, Rheinmetall plans to reorient the production lines exclusively toward the Boxer.

Meanwhile, as of today, the plant’s facilities are used for servicing other platforms, such as the Fuchs, Kodiak, Keiler, and Büffel.

To achieve the goal of producing over 500 vehicles per year, modern manufacturing technologies will be implemented, including automated and partially automated welding and painting.

As of today, Rheinmetall’s total global production capacity for combat vehicles – including the Boxer, Lynx, and Puma – amounts to about 600 units annually, of which approximately 400 are currently being produced.

Starting in 2030, demand is expected to increase to over 1,000 units per year, prompting the company to invest in expanding existing plants and building new ones – particularly in Italy and Romania.

It is worth noting that the production expansion is also connected to the German Armed Forces’ Arminius initiative, which envisions the procurement of around 1,850 Boxer armored personnel carriers in various configurations over the next decade, with the possibility of further increasing the order.

In addition, Boxer production has already been launched in the United Kingdom and Australia since 2025, complementing the global strategy to expand manufacturing capacity.

Militarnyi previously reported that the Bundeswehr is preparing for a large-scale procurement of Boxer wheeled infantry fighting vehicles from KNDS Germany.

These vehicles are intended to equip a newly established category of forces called the ‘Medium Forces’ (Mittlere Kräfte), which are meant to provide increased mobility and operational flexibility for units.
