Repair Center for Ukrainian Marder IFVs Opens in Romania

A repair center for the Ukrainian Army’s Marder 1A3 IFVs has opened near the Ukrainian border in northern Romania.

The German company Rheinmetall said that the Service Hub Satu Mare repair center was set up in a short time.

It’s a fully equipped site for repairing combat damage to keep the IFVs ready to go.

Germany has already transferred 140 Marder 1A3s to Ukraine and has publicly promised more batches.

The Chilean government has also agreed to sell Germany 30 Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles from army stockpiles under a so-called “ring exchange” scheme.

Rheinmetall is transferring used Marder 1A3s that were previously operated by the German Army. Before being sent to Ukraine, they undergo major repairs.

The Marder IFV was developed in the 1960s by the German company Rheinmetall AG on behalf of the German Armed Forces. It is armed with a 20 mm automatic cannon and a 7.62 mm MG3 machine gun.
