Relatives of the crew of the “Moskva” cruiser are receiving information from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation about the deaths of sailors while they were “performing the official duties.”
Militarnyi informs about it with reference to Radio Liberty.
Journalists were able to identify one of the dead Russians from “Moskva” – Ivan Vakhrushev. His wife wrote a post in Odnoklassniki social media stating that she had received an official notification of her husband’s death. Judging by the photo she published, Vakhrushev was a midshipman of the Russian Navy.
When asked by one of the Vkontakte users, Varvara Vakhrusheva confirmed that her husband died when “Moskva” sank: “His body was found. I was notified on Thursday.” The detailed circumstances of the death were not reported. According to her, 27 crew members “are missing in action”.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the entire crew of “Moskva” was evacuated.
On April 16, 2022, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation published footage of a meeting between Nikolai Yevmenov, Commander of the Russian Navy, with the alleged crew of a cruiser. Despite the fact that the crew of the cruisers of Project 1164 would count up to 500 people, the lineup shown in the video gathered much less personnel.
OSINT researcher H I Sutton estimated that approximately 240 sailors were assembled, which accounts to about half of the total crew. Also, in his opinion, the captain of the vessel survived.
Previously, the Ukrainian Naval Forces sank the flagship “Moskva” of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation with means of the coastal missile complex RK-360MTs “Neptune”. The ship went to the bottom after being hit by two Ukrainian missiles.
