The American company Radia has presented a concept for an ultra-large military transport aircraft designed to meet the needs of the United States and NATO.
This was announced at the Air, Space & Cyber Conference 2025, as reported by Breaking Defense.
The WindRunner is poised to become the largest military transport aircraft in history and is expected to play a vital role in the future of military airlift operations.
The length of the aircraft will be 109 meters, with a wingspan of 84 meters. The length of the cargo compartment will reach 106 meters, allowing it to transport, for example, six CH-47 Chinook helicopters or several fuselages of C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft.
It is stated that the internal volume of the WindRunner exceeds 6,800 cubic meters, which is approximately seven times greater than the cargo space of the C-5 and twelve times larger than that of the C-17.
Despite its large size, the aircraft’s maximum payload is about 72,575 kilograms, which is less than that of the Ukrainian An-225 Mriya, although the developers emphasize the cargo compartment volume rather than range or maximum payload.
It should be noted that over time, maintaining the Antonov company’s fleet will no longer be able to fully meet transportation needs due to the aging aircraft fleet, and production of similar-class aircraft, such as the An-124 Ruslan, is currently absent worldwide.
Militarnyi previously reported that Lithuania will purchase three C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft from Brazilian aerospace manufacturer Embraer.
