During a meeting with the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky showed him the production line for the Peklo missile-drones.
The President announced this on his page on the social network X.
“I met with the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Giuseppe Cavo Dragone. At one of the defense industry enterprises, we got acquainted with the capacities and characteristics of Ukrainian long-range weapons,” he said.
In addition, the parties discussed preparations for the next meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense in the Ramstein format, which will take place on February 12. For the first time, the meeting will be chaired by the United Kingdom, not the United States.
They also discussed the continuation of military assistance from NATO member states and direct investment in the domestic production of long-range drones.
In early December 2024, the first information about the Peklo missile-drones became known when President Volodymyr Zelensky solemnly handed over the first batch to the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
The maximum range of the missile is said to be 700 kilometers, and thanks to the jet engine, it can reach speeds of up to 700 km/h.
“The Ukrainian manufacturer created the drone missile from scratch in record time – within a year. The product has already been successfully used in combat,” said Minister of Strategic Industries Herman Smetanin.
He also noted that Peklo is already in mass production and is being constantly improved, in particular by increasing resistance to electronic warfare, improving performance and accuracy.
In addition, new warhead variants are being developed to expand the list of possible targets.
At the same time, according to the developers, the production of the new missile costs less than the Ukrainian Lyutyi kamikaze drone. The price of which reached 200 thousand dollars at the beginning of 2024.
The exact characteristics of the warhead are not disclosed, but the designers compare it to those used in long-range drones, which typically have warheads weighing 30 to 50 kilograms.
Navigation and targeting of the missile is based on a classical scheme, which is based on an autonomous inertial system with correction by GPS satellite signal. The developers reported that they are also working on more sophisticated guidance methods that will be integrated in future versions.
