Ukraine will increase the size of its armed forces by 100,000 people over three years.

At the opening of the seventh session of the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree “On strengthening the state’s defense capabilities and the attractiveness of military service,” Radio Svoboda writes.

It provides for the armed forces increase by 100 thousand people over the next three years and creation of an additional 20 brigades.

This decree is aimed at protecting “those who protect us,” Zelenskiy said. According to him, the document provides:

• increase the cash security of all military to a level not lower than 3 minimum wages (the minimum wage from the beginning of 2022 is 6.5 thousand hryvnias);
• Ukraine’s transition to the principles of a professional army;
• increasing the term of contracts;
• development of the concept of housing for servicemen, veterans, members of their families;
• career development system for officers;
• increase over the next 3 years the number of the Armed Forces per 100 thousand people of the professional army, creation of additional 20 brigades of the Armed Forces.

At the moment, the document has not been made public on the website of the Office of the President.

“This decree is the start of Ukraine’s transition to a professional army. This decree is not because war is coming soon, this decree in order that soon and in the future, there will be peace, peace in Ukraine, and this decree I am happy to sign in your presence,” Zelensky said from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada.

We remind you that as part of the deployment of the territorial defense system in Ukraine will be formed more than 150 battalions.

As part of the Territorial Defense Forces (ed. TDF), continues the formation of 25 brigades (one region – one brigade), which will include more than 150 battalions (one battalion per district).

The permanent size of Territorial Defense Forces in peace-time will be 10 thousand soldiers.

The TDF detachments table of organization for the special period will number more than 130 thousand soldiers, for which the appropriate reserve will be formed.

The Territorial Defence Forces are the military reserve component of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
