Ukrainian forces strike drones attacked Russian energy infrastructure in the Volgograd region.
This was reported by Astra, citing the governor of the Volgograd region.
According to Governor Andrey Bocharov, the Russian Defence Ministry’s air defense forces ‘repelled’ the attack by strike drones, but despite this, the drone debris fell on the territory of energy facilities, leaving several areas without electricity.
“Energy infrastructure facilities in the Volgograd region were attacked by UAVs, and some settlements were left without electricity,” the governor said.
This primarily refers to the Balashovskaya power transmission line substation in the Novonikolayevsky district, which was already attacked by drones in October and where a fire broke out as a result of the strike.
According to the official version of the Russian authorities, power engineers are currently restoring power to the settlements that are powered by this section of the grid – in Kikvidzenskiy, Uryupinskiy, Novonikolayevskiy and Novoanninskiy districts.
It is worth noting that despite the traditional position of local authorities, who usually claim that the ‘massive attack’ was completely repelled by air defense forces, the attack drones still managed to hit the target, as evidenced by the consequences announced by the governor himself.
The Balashovskaya power transmission line substation has a capacity of 1523 MVA and provides transit power flows from the Volga hydroelectric power plant to the Central region of Russia. In addition, it supplies electricity to consumers in part of the Volgograd region, the southeastern part of the Voronezh region, and the western part of the Saratov region.
