Polish Army Received the First Domestic Borsuk IFVs

The Armed Forces of Poland have received the first mass-produced domestic Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles.

The Ministry of Defense of Poland reported on this.

The 15 new BMPs were transferred to the 15th Gieżycka Mechanized Brigade under the first contract of March 2025.

At that time, the Polish military ordered 111 Borsuk vehicles worth 6.57 billion zlotys, or about $1.67 billion.

Deliveries of these infantry fighting vehicles are scheduled for 2025-2029. The agreement also includes, among other things, training and logistics services.

The Borsuk is manufactured by Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW), a part of the state defense concern Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ).

The manufacturer has provided training for more than 50 military personnel who will be the first to master the new equipment. After a few weeks of training, they will be able to operate the BMPs in their unit.

The new Borsuk tracked fighting vehicles will replace the outdated BMP-1. The deal will ensure the rearmament of two mechanized battalions.

Borsuk IFVs

The vehicles will be supplied in the basic version with a crew of three and an airborne compartment for six soldiers. They will be equipped with the Polish-designed ZSSW-30 remote-controlled combat module.

The turret is equipped with a 30-mm Mk.44 Bushmaster II automatic cannon adapted for programmable ammunition and a twin Spike-LR ATGM launcher.

The ZSSW-30 is equipped with an automated fire control system developed by WB Electronics, Polish stabilized sights from PCO with thermal imaging cameras, a laser rangefinder, and the SSP-1 Obra active protection system.

According to the Defense Ministry, the Polish army’s total need for IFVs and other equipment based on them is 1400 units. Of these, more than 1000 are infantry fighting vehicles, and about 400 are specialized vehicles.
