The Special Purpose Police Regiment (SPPD) of the Kharkiv Regional Police evacuated a resident of Kupiansk using an UGV.

This was reported by the regiment’s press service.

According to the press service, the police received a call from a woman from Kupiansk: there was almost no connection, she could not leave on her own and asked for immediate help.

A ground drone was used to ensure her safe evacuation. The robot delivered the woman to the controlled area, where the crew of the PPOP picked her up and took her to a safer place.

“We are grateful to the UGV operator and the crew for their precise work. The Special Purpose Police Regiment continues evacuation operations and saves people where it is needed most. If necessary, call 102,” the agency said.

Fighting for Kupiansk

As a reminder, in mid-December 2025, as a result of a multi-month operation, the Defense Forces surrounded the remnants of the Russian occupiers in Kupiansk.

In September 2025, after the situation in Kupiansk became critical, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine created the Khartia search-and-strike group. It included, in particular, units of the 13th ‘Khartia’ Brigade, the 475th Assault Regiment “Code 9.2”, the 92nd Assault Brigade, the Foreign Legion of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the 144th Mechanized Brigade.

The grouping was created to eliminate the enemy’s breakthrough north of Kupiansk, surround the enemy who broke through to the city, and completely liberate it.

In October-November, the units defeated several battalions and assault units from the 121st, 122nd Guards Rifle Divisions and the 30th Engineer Regiment of the 68th Guards Rifle Division, as well as the 27th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces.

Ukrainian soldiers broke through to the Oskil River north of Kupiansk, completely blocking the occupiers’ land routes into the city and surrounding the group in the city. As a result of heavy fighting, the group of the 13th ‘Khartia’ Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine completely liberated the village of Radkivka and its surroundings, as well as the surrounding forests. After that, the Defense Forces began a systematic cleanup of the town.

As of early January 2026, there were still some Russian soldiers in the town, hiding in basements and ruins of buildings. According to Ukrainian military estimates, there were less than a hundred occupants in the city at the time.

“Some enemy soldiers remain there, but they are completely surrounded. They are already having big problems even with getting some supplies, including the ‘air bridge,’ because we can just see where it all falls. I would say that this is the final phase of clearing the city,” Viktor Trehubov, a spokesman for the Joint Forces Task Force, told Suspilne on January 3.
