A Polish citizen suspected of intending to join the Russian army and fight against Ukraine was detained in Estonia after an attempt to illegally cross the border on the Narva River.
The report comes from ERR.
The incident took place last week, on the night of August 5, but it has been reported to the press only now.
Estonian border guards noticed a Pole attempting to cross the Narva River toward Russia on an air mattress.
They caught up with him and detained him, a 49-year-old Polish citizen. During the search, pro-Russian symbols were found on his person.
Law enforcement officers opened a criminal investigation into the incident.
The investigation further established that the man had arrived in Estonia from Serbia and intended to join the Russian army.
The man was taken into custody for at least 2 months and charged under the article on participation or support of an act of aggression committed by a foreign state.
“Joining the Russian army poses an indirect threat to the security of Estonia and all EU member states… We will also prosecute citizens of other countries who try to support the Russian war,” said Chief Prosecutor of the Virú District Prosecutor’s Office Gardi Anderson.
In July of this year, the Krakow Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against a Polish citizen who is fighting on the side of the Russian Federation and spreading Russian propaganda, RMF24 reports.
The former soldier is suspected of collaborating with Russian intelligence and spreading false and manipulative information in the interests of the Russian Federation.
As a reminder, Poland has indicted a Belarusian citizen who wanted to cooperate with the Belarusian KGB and commit sabotage in the European Union.
