Poland has ordered 5000 additional Starlink terminals for Ukraine.
Polish Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gawkowski noted that the Polish government provides half of all Starlink terminals operating in Ukraine.
As of the end of 2024, Poland has provided Ukraine with 24,400 Starlink terminals manufactured by Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
Gawkowski reported that a new batch was ordered in November and is gradually arriving in Ukraine.
De jure, Poland does not donate these terminals to Ukraine but lends them. However, most likely, they will never be returned.
This form was chosen to avoid unnecessary complications, including tax ones.
Starlink terminals provide critical communications for the Ukrainian army at the front.
Not all terminals are active at all times, and their number changes over time – they are switched on and off at the Ukrainian side’s discretion. In addition, hundreds of terminals were destroyed during the fighting.
Polish support is very important – so far, devices provided by Poland have accounted for half of all Starlink terminals operating in Ukraine.
“Poland has been supplying the Internet to Ukrainian society and the Ukrainian army for many months. Thanks to Starlink, tasks are being performed that allow us to hold the front,” Gawkowski shared.
In 2024, Poland’s spending on terminal maintenance and purchasing new terminals amounted to PLN 120.66 million (over UAH 1.2 billion). The expected maintenance cost in 2025 is PLN 186.8 million (almost UAH 2 billion).
Last December, the Armed Forces of Ukraine gained access to the secure US military satellite communications network Starshield.
