The Pentagon is conducting “preliminary explorations” into potentially providing Ukraine with tactical aircraft.
John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council told reporters about this on July 22, 2022.
The content of Kirby’s words was retold by American journalist Lara Seligman, on her Twitter account.
John Kirby noted that deliveries will not happen soon, because of the complexity of operation and maintenance.
Thus, the Pentagon confirmed the words of the US Air Force representative. The day before, the Chief of Staff of the US Air Force, General Charles Brown, said that the Americans were exploring options for jets that could be handed over to Ukrainians.
European-made fighters (SAAB Gripen, Eurofighter Typhoon and Dassault Rafale) are among the possible options, in addition to US-made ones (F-16, F-18, F-15).
Recall that Congress has already voted for the Pentagon budget, which provides $100 million to organize the training of Ukrainian pilots. The proposal to plan funds for these needs was introduced by Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger.
A group of senators appealed to the Pentagon to include fourth-generation fighters and training costs for Ukrainian aviators in military assistance packages for Ukraine.
