One day before Russia’s missile strike, Ukraine’s partners delivered air defense missiles that helped protect critical infrastructure.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that thanks to the timely assistance, air defense forces were able to engage a significant number of targets.
On the night of January 20, the Ukrainian Air Force shot down 27 enemy missiles and 315 drones during a massive combined strike, according to the Ukrainian Air Force Command.
“The day before this strike, we finally received the necessary missiles, and this helped significantly. Every support package matters,” Zelensky emphasized.
Missiles for the Patriot, NASAMS, and other air defense systems remain particularly critical for Ukraine.
“The direct task of our entire diplomatic system is to work to ensure that Ukraine has sufficient air defense capabilities. And our partners must not let us down in this matter, because missiles for air defense are real protection for people’s lives,” the President stressed.
The enemy used a wide range of weapons, including the scarce Zircon anti-ship missile, launched from the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea. The enemy also launched 18 Iskander-M and S-300 ballistic missiles, 15 Kh-101 cruise missiles, and 339 strike drones of various types. More than 250 of them were Shahed-type kamikaze drones, along with new models of Gerber and Italmas.
