Norway has committed to financing the purchase of one Patriot air defense system for Ukraine.

The announcement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who also noted that Germany was prepared to fund two additional Patriot systems. These contributions will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.

“When we receive a clear response from the manufacturer and the U.S. regarding the timelines, other European partners will also join,” Zelensky said.

Transfer of New Patriot Systems to Ukraine

As previously reported, the U.S. presidential administration is considering the possibility of delivering an additional Patriot air defense system to Ukraine.

Trump also emphasized that Ukraine was facing powerful missile and air strikes, which is why the issue of supplying Patriot systems was under consideration.

This statement was made amid negotiations between the German government and the U.S. regarding the purchase of two Patriot systems for Ukraine.

Berlin expects a commitment from the U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to provide two Patriot systems, which will be financed by Germany.

Military Aid from Norway in the Air Defense Sector

At the end of June, it became known that the Norwegian government, in cooperation with the company Kongsberg and Ukraine, would finance and develop missiles for the NASAMS air defense system.

A key milestone in this partnership will be the implementation of new projects focused on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and fostering joint initiatives in the defense industry.

The integration of Ukrainian missiles into the Norwegian NASAMS system was first reported in February 2025.

Integration of Ukrainian missiles into the Norwegian missile system was confirmed back in February 2025, when Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, stated in an interview with Euractiv that the company had been establishing a joint venture in Ukraine to expand missile production for NASAMS using Ukrainian technology.

The discussion concerned mass production, but the specific type or model of missiles was not disclosed.
