Norway will allocate €822 million to train and equip the new Nordic-Baltic Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was reported by the official website of the Norwegian government.
This amount will be distributed between training personnel, equipping the brigade’s units with appropriate equipment, and creating a material part of the brigade.
It should be noted that Norway and Ukraine have identified the main areas of cooperation for 2025 and agreed to allocate an additional €5 billion for security assistance to Ukraine.
These funds will complement the already announced €2 billion, bringing the total amount of aid for this year to €7 billion.
“A brigade is formed from various types of weapons to form a full-fledged ground combat unit capable of operating independently. Typically, a brigade consists of 3,000 to 5,000 soldiers. The project is flexible and scalable and will provide equipment and training in accordance with Ukraine’s needs,” the Norwegian government said.
The funds will also be used to purchase relevant defense equipment, materials, and ammunition from both Norwegian and Ukrainian industry.
According to Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik, this initiative does not cover the full equipping of the brigade, but is aimed at training individual units to a level that will meet Ukraine’s needs.
“The support will be aimed at providing the material and technical means that are most important for Ukraine in its defense against Russia. We will continue to provide assistance, in particular, to strengthen maritime security, air defense, and the development of unmanned aerial vehicles and autonomous systems. The government will also allocate funds to expand cooperation with the Ukrainian defense industry and purchase its products,” he said.
As a reminder, in March 2025, Militarnyi reported that the Baltic States and Scandinavia had launched joint training of a Ukrainian brigade as part of the Nordic-Baltic Brigade project.
On February 24, 2025, the presidents of Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, and the prime ministers of Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden announced that they would provide equipment and training to the Ukrainian brigade.
In addition, the countries pledged to further expand their support for Ukraine, in particular in the areas of air defense, ammunition, and investment in the Ukrainian defense industry.
The project began in September 2024 under the name Northern Brigade, when the Ukrainian government invited northern European states to train a Ukrainian battalion each. Later, the Baltic states also joined the project.
