Norway will donate approximately 160 Hellfire laser-guided missiles to Ukraine.
The Armed Forces will also receive launchers and guidance units, which are necessary for launching at a given target.
The Ministry of Defense of Norway reported about this.
Norway will also hand over the night-vision equipment drawn from its Armed Forces inventories.
The transfer of weapons was announced by Bjørn Arild Gram, Norwegian Defense Minister, during today’s Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting, which is taking place at the American Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
Norway was buying these missiles for its Coastal Ranger Commando, trained to operate in coastal theaters of war. It performs the role of the Marine Corps and Coastal Artillery.
“This is a weapon that Ukraine has asked for, and it will prove useful in their fight against Russian invasion forces. The missile is easy to operate and can be used against both land- and sea-targets,” said the Norwegian minister.
The Norwegian Armed Forces tested and verified the status of the missiles prior to their shipment. Ukrainian operators have received training from Norwegian instructors to use the Hellfire.
The ground-based Hellfire missile launcher can be transported by the vehicle or carried by hand. It can also be mounted on moving platforms.
The system includes several main components:
The missiles are equipped with a 9-kilogram warhead and have a flight range of about 8 kilometers. Their guidance is carried out with the help of laser illumination (laser target pointer) of the object to be hit. The missile’s length is 163 centimeters, and the diameter is 17.8 centimeters. The elements of the system are connected to each other by cables.
Norway has also donated night-vision equipment to Ukraine. This includes both night vision goggles and binoculars.
