Roshel, the Canadian armored vehicle manufacturer, has delivered its 1700th Senator to Ukraine.
Roman Shimonov, Roshel’s founder, announced this in an interview with CP24.
He highlighted that the company has provided Ukraine with the largest number of armored vehicles, surpassing any other country or manufacturer.
Although the vehicles are manufactured at a single facility in Ontario, Canada, the assembly line is operated by approximately 500 dedicated full-time workers.
These production facilities enable the company to produce 120 Senator armored vehicles per month, the majority of which are exported.
Shimonov also mentioned that, despite receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from the military, the Canadian government has so far declined to purchase these armored vehicles for Ukraine.
He added that more than 90% of the over 1700 armored vehicles have been funded by foreign governments, including Ukraine, while Canada has contributed only 10%.
The significance of this type of vehicle lies in its cost-effectiveness, with each armored vehicle priced at $600,000, as well as its efficient production process, with each unit taking up to two weeks to assemble.
It’s important to note that the Senator armored vehicle is built on the chassis of a heavy-duty Ford truck. The company’s experts carry out comprehensive modifications to the civilian base, ensuring the vehicle’s suitability for use in both front-line and near-front-line zones. Its ballistic protection is designed to withstand impacts from 5.56mm and 7.62mm caliber bullets at a range of 30 meters, traveling at a speed of 695 m/s.
An additional option is the installation of mine protection, which provides protection against 6 kg of explosives and anti-tank mines under any wheel or under the bottom of the vehicle.
With this level of protection, the vehicle is equipped with a 400-horsepower engine that provides excellent off-road performance.
The Senator armored vehicle has gained a good reputation in Ukraine. In addition, a command and staff vehicle for the Armed Forces of Ukraine was developed on the basis of this armored vehicle.
The vehicle can accommodate up to 10 soldiers in full gear and provides a high level of protection against explosive devices and enemy ambushes.
Militarnyi previously reported that in September 2024, Roshel delivered the 1400th Senator armored vehicle to Ukraine, marking a new milestone. This followed the delivery of the 1000th armored vehicle in December 2023.
When comparing production rates, it’s clear how much they have accelerated. The delivery of the 1700th armored vehicle occurred just five months after the 1400th. This marks a significant increase in pace, as the 1400th vehicle was delivered only nine months after the 1000th.
