A Ukrainian long-range Neptune missile hit a military depot in the Rostov region.
Babel’s sources said that the operation had been carried out by the SSU and the Ukrainian Navy.
First, SSU drones overwhelmed Russian air defense.
Then a long-range Neptune missile was launched at the Russian military facility.
“Reconnaissance drones were also stored there. It was a joint operation of the Ukrainian Navy and the Security Service of Ukraine,” the sources said.
The Ukrainian military industry produced more than a hundred missile weapons in 2024.
Prior to the full-scale invasion, various missile programs were developed and improved in Ukraine.
The R-360 Neptune cruise missile was a particularly successful project.
The adaptation of the Neptune anti-ship missile to hit ground targets first became known in April 2023.
A representative of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine told The Drive on the condition of anonymity that designers were working on modifying the missile to hit ground targets.
The new missile can be launched from the same launcher as before. It has a maximum range of 400 km and a combat weight of 350 kilograms (150 kg in the anti-ship version).
The missile also received a new guidance system. A satellite positioning system was installed to guide the missile during the flight’s marching phase. In the final part of the flight, the missile is guided by an infrared homing system. In December 2023, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk confirmed the information about the modernization of the Neptune missile.
