NATO is preparing for the rapid deployment of additional Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.

Alexus Hrynkiewicz, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, announced this on Thursday, Reuters reports.

According to him, the preparations are being carried out in close cooperation with Germany.

“The preparations are ongoing, and we are working very closely with the Germans on the transfer of Patriot. I have been instructed to do this as soon as possible,” Hrynkiewicz said at a conference in the German city of Wiesbaden.

On July 15, US President Donald Trump stated that the first deliveries of Patriot missiles to Ukraine had already begun.

He noted that the missiles will come from Germany, which will subsequently replenish its own stocks by purchasing them from the United States.

The German Defense Ministry, on the other hand, did not confirm Trump’s words and said that they were “not aware of anything” about the shipment of Patriot missile system components to Ukraine.

A representative of the German Defense Ministry stated that on July 21, a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s defense in the Ramstein format will be held to discuss options for accelerating the supply of Patriot systems to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Earlier, Trump announced an agreement between the United States and NATO, under which purchases and supplies of American weapons for Ukraine will be paid for by European allies.

In addition, Trump announced the delivery of additional Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi recently announced that Germany is prepared to fund two Patriot air defense systems for Ukraine, and Norway is ready to cover the cost of another one.

Later, The Wall Street Journal reported that Donald Trump proposed to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz that Ukraine purchase five Patriot air defense systems, not two. The proposal came after he watched videos of Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities.
