The Command of the National Guard of Ukraine has suspended the commander of a military unit following a Russian missile strike near Shostka in the Sumy region.
The press service of the National Guard of Ukraine reported this.
As a result of the strike on the shooting range of the military unit during training on May 20, 6 servicemen were killed, and more than 10 others were injured.
An internal investigation into the tragedy is being conducted.
“The Command of the National Guard of Ukraine and law enforcement agencies will give a strict legal assessment of the actions of all officials based on the results of the inspection and investigation of the tragic incident that occurred yesterday as a result of the missile strike in the Sumy region,” the statement reads.
It is reported that the military unit commander has been suspended, and the necessary information has been transferred to law enforcement agencies.
The National Guard of Ukraine assures that it will provide all “necessary information and assistance.”
It was also emphasized that the command had previously developed action algorithms and provided all necessary instructions regarding actions in the event of airstrike threats, as well as to prevent violations of safety measures and the crowding of personnel.
“As part of the investigation, a legal assessment will be made of the actions of all individuals who made the corresponding decisions,” the National Guard stated, expressing sincere condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased and injured.
On Tuesday, May 20, Russian propaganda media claimed a strike on a “training camp for Ukrainian soldiers” in the Sumy region using Iskander ballistic missiles.
The shooting range is located near Shostka, just over 40 kilometers from the Russian border.
The Sumy Regional Military Administration reported the missile strike by the invaders on the Shostka community.
