Moldova received 29 new HMMWVs from the United States

The Armed Forces of Moldova received 29 HMMWV off-road vehicles as part of military assistance from the United States.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Moldova.

The handover ceremony took place on February 18 at the territory of military unit 142 in Chisinau.

The event was attended by the Advisor to the President of Moldova on Defense and National Security, Secretary of the Supreme Security Council Stanislav Secrieru, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova Daniela DiPierro, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff and military attaches.

Defense Minister Anatolii Nosatii emphasized that the received military equipment is a confirmation of the effectiveness of joint efforts to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities.

“This batch of aid is a vivid example of effective and long-term cooperation between the defense ministries of Moldova and the United States. It confirms our common goal of ensuring peace and security, which can only be achieved through solidarity and joint efforts,” Nosaty stated.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the armored vehicles are new and were manufactured in 2024.

As a result of this transfer, the total fleet of HMMWVs in the Moldovan Armed Forces has increased to 129 units.

Military assistance for Moldova

Earlier, on January 30, it was reported that Sweden would provide the Armed Forces of Moldova with military assistance in the form of AT4 anti-tank grenade launchers.

It is known that the total cost of the batch of grenade launchers is 1.17 million dollars.

In December, it became known that the European Union would provide Moldova with equipment to intercept drones.

It is not yet known what kind of equipment is involved. It could be electronic warfare (EW) equipment or other systems.

In August 2024, Germany reinforced the Moldovan border police with Ukrainian-made FurSeal 485 boats.
