Mobile air defense fire teams destroyed 47% of drones and 19% of cruise missiles in the Operational Zone North on January 2.
Lieutenant General Serhii Naiev announced this.
It is reported that fire groups are countering air threats with short-range anti-aircraft missile systems, anti-aircraft artillery guns, portable anti-aircraft missile systems, and heavy machine guns.
“Thank you, guys, for your incredible courage and dedication! Thanks to you, we were able to strengthen our air shield and thereby save thousands of lives of our civilians. Every family, every living soul, thank you for your protection,” Naiev shared.
Militarnyi recently reported that Ukrainian mobile air defense firing groups are using digital sights for targeting.
The footage published by the Air Command South features the process of automatic capture of a target in the sight of a thermal imaging camera.
Such an application should aid the shooter in quickly detecting a stealthy flying object and aiming at it, which is extremely important, as the target could be in the striking range for a few seconds.
It is not clear whether this sighting system is able to make corrections for firing at moving targets.
It was also reported that the units of the State Border Service strengthened the with new ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns.
The SBGS noted that anti-aircraft guns are used to combat Russian loitering munition and other air targets.
Currently, the new crews of anti-aircraft installations have undergone the necessary training and are already on combat duty.
In addition to machine guns as part of firing groups, portable anti-aircraft missile systems of the Soviet and Western models are often used.
Ukrainian volunteers will equip MANPADS launchers with thermal imaging sights for their use against air targets in the dark.
