American Mk44 Stretch Bushmaster guns for the new Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles have been delivered to Poland.
The American company Northrop Grumman, which has contracts with Polish defense companies, delivered the guns.
These guns are also used to arm Polish Rosomak combat vehicles, which are also in service with Ukraine.
Every year, the company performs maintenance of the weapons, trains personnel, and supplies spare parts to keep the Polish BMP fleet in good working order.
The Mk44 Stretch Bushmaster gun is used on a variety of land and sea platforms.
It is capable of firing 30×173 mm ammunition and can be upgraded to use 40 mm Super Forty rounds.
On the Borsuk, these guns are mounted in ZSSW-30 combat modules, which are remote-controlled turrets developed for the new platform.
In addition to the guns, Allison Transmission 3040 MX transmissions were also ordered for Borsuk.
Poland has already ordered more than a hundred domestically produced Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles and is preparing industrial facilities for their serial production.
The new vehicles are to replace the outdated BMP-1s, some of which have already been handed over to the Ukrainian army.
The Borsuk infantry fighting vehicle features a front-facing layout, with engine and transmission compartments, as well as a command compartment. Behind them is the combat compartment with seats for the commander and gunner.
The vehicle weighs 28 tons. The maximum speed on the highway is up to 65 km/h. The power plant is a German diesel engine MTU 8V-199-TE20 with a capacity of 720 hp. The basic version of the BMP provides for a crew of three and a landing compartment for six soldiers.
