Missile Strike Destroys Galvanic Shop at Russia’s Iskander Missile Plant

High-resolution satellite images show that a missile strike on the Iskander missile plant destroyed the galvanic and stamping workshop.

The strike on the Votkinsk plant by FP-5 Flamingo missiles left a hole in the roof of the shop measuring approximately 30 × 24 meters. The length of the damage is uneven — around 24 meters on one side and 18 meters on the other — while the width is 30 meters.

Analysts note that the pattern of destruction and the collapse suggest that the explosion’s epicenter was inside the building, likely burning out internal areas completely.

Contrary to earlier reports that workshops No. 22 and No. 36 were affected, the missile hit plant building No. 19, the galvanic and stamping shop.

The workshop handles metal stamping and forming, manufacturing rocket body components, and galvanic treatment of parts, including protective and functional coatings and surface preparation for final assembly.

Damage to this workshop can critically affect the production cycle, as it is where the basic structure of missile bodies is formed and prepared for final assembly.

By autumn 2022, a new galvanic section of 3,000 m² had been completed at the plant to expand production.

Factory workers noted, “Galvanic coating is an essential part of producing most plant products. The entire facility is awaiting the commissioning of the new section, without exaggeration.”

Votkinsk Plant is a key Russian enterprise producing solid-fuel ballistic missiles. It serially manufactures RS-24 Yars intercontinental ballistic missiles, continues servicing Topol missiles, and produces RSM-56 Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missiles.

In addition to strategic systems, the plant produces 9M723 operational-tactical missiles for the Iskander-M complex, 9-S-7760 missiles for the Kinzhal aviation missile system, and Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missiles. The plant also manufactures equipment for the oil, gas, and nuclear sectors.

The enterprise is under sanctions by the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, and Ukraine.
