On the night of December 15, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a missile strike on the Luch thermal power plant in Belgorod.
The Governor of Belgorod Region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, along with ASTRA and The Moscow Times, reported the attack.
According to the governor, there were no casualties reported initially. However, significant damage to the plant’s engineering infrastructure was noted.
Local outlet Pepel mentioned that after the strike, a large cloud of smoke rose over the area surrounding the Luch power plant.
The plant is one of the key energy facilities in Belgorod, operating on natural gas. It supplies electricity and heating to the Kharkovskaya Gora neighborhood and other parts of the city.
This is not the first strike on energy infrastructure in Belgorod. On September 28, Ukrainian forces attacked the Luch thermal power plant and a city substation, which led to power outages in certain areas of Belgorod, Stary Oskol, Shebekino, and several other settlements in the region.
On October 5, one of the power units of the Luch thermal power plant was also attacked. At that time, thousands of residents of Belgorod and the region were left without electricity. The strike was repeated on November 10.
