Maxar Technologies, the American aerospace company, has made the decision to limit Ukraine’s access to its satellite imagery.

Several users of the commercial service, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed this to Militarnyi.

The official explanation provided by Maxar’s administration to users was that the restriction was made “in response to an administrative request.”

In fact, the disconnection was due to a US government ban on sharing intelligence data with Ukraine.

Specifically, the administration of President Donald Trump, through the State Department, prohibited American companies and commercial services from supplying satellite data to Ukraine.

This restriction applies to both government and private users.

For instance, the Ukrainian cyber community CyberBoroshno shared a post on its Telegram account, highlighting the closure of access to satellite intelligence.

The community did not specify which services had been affected. However, in their comments, they clarified that access to the primary Maxar Technologies service, which they relied on for their work, had been revoked.

Maxar Technologies, an American aerospace company, is perhaps the leading provider of commercial satellite imagery for Ukrainian users, particularly for tracking the movement of Russian troops and assessing damage to key infrastructure, both in the temporarily occupied territories and within Russia itself.

Maxar’s satellite images have also been widely used by global media outlets to illustrate and analyze the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.

On March 5, it was reported that the United States had suspended intelligence sharing with Ukraine. This data was used, among other things, to strike strategic targets in Russia, as well as to target precision-guided American weapons for strikes near the front line.

The next day, Sébastien Lecornu, French Minister of the Armed Forces, stated that France was ready to share its intelligence with Ukraine, stepping in for the United States.
