Actor Mark Hamill, who played the role of Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars saga, said to have helped raise funds for 500 UAVs for Ukraine.
He told about this on the air of the Sound On program on Bloomberg Radio.
The drones are being fundrised under the United24 fundraising platform.
“Very simply: Ukraine needs drones. They define war outcomes, they protect their land, their people, they monitor the border, they’re eyes in the sky,” Hamill said.
The actor also noted that he was “shocked” that his involvement in the “Army of Drones” project to raise funds for drones for Ukraine brought such results.
“I was really shocked because they give me these updates at least two or three times a week about what’s going on and they said they’ve received over 500 drones since I started this,” Hamill said.
Mark Hamill became an ambassador for the United24 fundraising platform on September 29.
After a Zoom call with Zelensky, Hamill began working with United24.
In addition, the actor tweeted an image of a lone X-Wing fighter in the blue and yellow colours. This model was flown by his Skywalker character in Star Wars.
The United24 platform is a transparent and effective tool for collecting funds in support of Ukraine.
Money from the platform is used to provide the most important needs in three areas: defense and demining, medical aid and reconstruction of Ukraine.
Previously, Ukrainian athletes Andriy Shevchenko and Elina Svitolina, American actors Liev Schreiber and Barbra Streisand, Imagine Dragons band, Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia became ambassadors of this platform.
