The Malaysian Armed Forces have ordered reconnaissance drones from Poland’s WB Group, Defence24 reported.

New reconnaissance drones of the FlyEye model have been put into service with the Malaysian military’s artillery unit, which uses them to adjust artillery.

This latest order has allowed the 61st Royal Artillery Regiment in Johor to reach full operational capacity.

In December 2024, Defence24 reported that Malaysia had ordered FlyEye drones from WB Group as part of efforts to expand its unmanned aerial capabilities.

The country received the first of three UAV batches that same month and personnel training began at a training center in Silesia.

The FlyEye drone is a small reconnaissance UAV launched by hand, with a total weight of 12 kg.

It can remain airborne for up to three hours, reach a maximum altitude of 3 km, and fly at speeds of up to 160 km/h.

Its GS4 dual-sensor electro-optical system—featuring a daytime camera with optical zoom and a thermal imager for night operations—incorporates a multi-axis stabilization system to provide high-quality imaging in challenging conditions.

In addition to Malaysia, the Polish armed forces have also purchased these drones.

Militarnyi previously reported that in November 2024, Poland ordered 13 domestically produced FlyEye unmanned aerial systems.

Brigadier General Artur Kuptel, head of the Armaments Agency, signed the contract on behalf of the Ministry of Defense, while WB Group was represented by its president, Piotr Wojciechowski.

The FlyEye system was first demonstrated in 2010 and tested by the Polish army during missions in Afghanistan.

It was later deployed in combat during the Russian aggression in Donbas, where Ukrainian Defense forces used the system.
