France plans to supply Ukraine with Mirage 2000 fighter jets as part of its military assistance.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the intended fighters to be transferred will be in the Mirage-2000-5 variant.
“Tomorrow we will launch a new cooperation and announce the transfer of Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets to Ukraine made by French manufacturer Dassault and train their Ukrainian pilots in France,” Macron said.
The French President added that starting from tomorrow (June 7th), France will begin a pilot training program.
France will organize six-month pilot training courses to operate the Mirage 2000-5.
According to plans, the Mirage 2000-5 fighters are expected to be delivered to the Ukrainian Air Force by the end of 2024.
Macron stressed that aiding Ukraine against Russian aggression “means avoiding the law of the strongest,” and announced that this will be the subject of his talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday.
In addition, Paris will assist in training a Ukrainian brigade of 4,500 military personnel, which, as Macron stressed, “is not an escalation factor.”
The meeting of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky with French President Emmanuel Macron and a number of officials in Paris will take place on Friday, June 7.
They are expected to sign two agreements providing Ukraine with €650 million in loans and grants to support local authorities and critical infrastructure, including energy infrastructure, which is targeted by Russia.
The Mirage 2000-5 is an upgraded variant of the French Mirage 2000 fighter jet.
The aircraft received a new radar, an updated cockpit with three multifunctional displays, and other improvements.
