In Lyman Sector, AFU Repelled Attack Involving More Than Twenty Enemy Vehicles

In the Lyman sector, Russian forces launched an assault on Ukrainian positions using dozens of vehicles alongside infantry.

The 66th Mechanized Brigade reported that the enemy had intensified its efforts and launched new waves of massive offensives.

Taking advantage of deteriorating weather conditions, the Russians attempted to break through the brigade’s defenses.

To do so, the occupiers’ command deployed over 50 motorcycles and ATVs, armored vehicles, and a significant number of personnel.

In just a few hours, the 66th Mechanized Brigade alone managed to neutralize:

• 43 occupiers;
• 6 armored vehicles destroyed or damaged—primarily BMP-3s and BTR-82s;
• 10 ATVs;
• 5 motorcycles.

Some Russian troops began to retreat without ever reaching the front line.

“The plans of those who did dare to launch an assault were completely shattered by units of the 66th Mechanized Brigade, together with units of the 3rd Army Corps and the 20th K-2 Unmanned Systems Brigade,” the brigade reported.

On March 20, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the enemy had launched 18 attacks in the Lyman direction.

“They attempted to breach our defenses by attacking in the directions of Hrekivka, Nadiia, Novomykhailivka, Novoserhiivka, Olhivka, Serednie, Drobysheve, Zarichne, Lyman, Dibrova, Tverdokhlibove, and the settlement of Koroviy Yar,” the General Staff noted.

The Lyman direction remains one of the key ones for the enemy.

“The main and current objective for the enemy is Lyman. This is a long-standing objective, as the enemy seeks to reach the northern outskirts of the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. To do this, it must capture Lyman and advance toward Raihorodok. After that, it would directly attack the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. However, the enemy has failed to achieve this for years,” said Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Operation.

This is not the first such attack in March. Earlier this month, the Russians sent heavy armored vehicles to storm the Lyman sector, which entered the operational zone of Ukrainian drones and artillery.
