The Lviv community purchased and transferred a large batch of FPV kamikaze drones to Ukrainian soldiers.
This was reported on the city council’s website.
This batch consists of 875 FPV drones to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The city budget allocated UAH 12.7 million to purchase these drones within the Lion’s Revenge initiative.
The FPV drones were transferred to various units of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces, currently defending Ukraine from the Russian aggressor.
Last week, the city also transferred 800 FPV drones to Ukrainian paratroopers. Lviv City Council spent over UAH 14 million to purchase them.
Previously, the military also received an RQ-35 Heidrun UAS consisting of three drones.
This configuration ensures that the system can conduct aerial reconnaissance even if one of the drones is lost.
Lviv spent UAH 15.9 million to purchase this reconnaissance system.
It is worth noting that in the Russian-Ukrainian war, the definition of FPV drones can be expanded to high-speed quadcopters controlled by a special headset.
The military uses FPV drones as kamikaze drones, installing various warheads on them. One more use case is dropping munition on the enemy with the help of an FPV drone, after which the drone is returned. Such drones are actively used during Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The successful use of one or even several cheap drones can destroy equipment worth millions of dollars. This is evidenced by many videos of the combat use of such drones on the front line.
