Citizens of Lithuania raised €6 million for radars for Ukraine.
This was reported on the initiative’s website. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, also announced that it was possible to raise such funds.
The campaign to help Ukraine, during which funds are collected for the purchase of multifunctional tactical radars, started on January 30.
At the beginning of the campaign, the Lithuanians set a goal of collecting €5 million for the purchase of multifunctional tactical radars.
Their purpose is to monitor the airspace near critical infrastructure. But the entire amount and even more were collected in a week.
“Lithuania has only 3 million people, but this week we crowdfunded 6 million euros to buy air defense systems for Ukraine. No sign of fatigue here. We will stand with Ukraine until victory is achieved,” Gabrielius Landsbergis said.
The campaign in Lithuanian is called Radarom! (We are glad!).
The following organizations – Blue/Yellow, Laisvės TV, 1K fondas and Stiprūs kartu – joined the initiative’s implementation.
They plan to buy radars from Israeli manufacturers – one such radar with equipment costs €1 million.
According to the organizers of the action, the purchase had already been agreed upon, it was only necessary to raise the funds.
As previously reported, in January 2023, Lithuania announced that it will provide Ukraine with a new €125 million military aid package, which will include ammunition, helicopters, and guns.
In total, Lithuania has already provided Ukraine with over €640 million of aid, of which €232 million was for the needs of the army. In particular, Lithuania provided Stinger MANPADS, anti-tank weapons, body armor and helmets, 120 mm mortars, small arms, ammunition, thermal imaging cameras. It also became known that Lithuania would strengthen the air defense of Ukraine with L70 anti-aircraft guns.
