In Lithuania, air raid sirens will now be activated in response to threats posed by Russian drones.

Lithuania’s Minister of the Interior Vladislavas Kondratovičius stated this during an interview on Lithuanian National Radio (LRT).

“The red alert level may be declared if it is determined that the drone is capable of carrying explosives,” the minister stated.

Therefore, when a dangerous drone is detected, Lithuanians will be informed not only via mobile alerts but also through sirens.

The decision to implement this measure follows multiple instances of unidentified drones being detected in the country’s airspace. Specifically, in July of this year, Lithuania’s Minister of Defense, Dovilė Šakalienė, reported that two Gerbera drones, each carrying 2 kilograms of explosives, entered the airspace from Belarus.

“We can confirm that this is a ‘Gerbera’ drone. Such a drone can be used for various purposes, and we are investigating its intended use. At this time, we have no information suggesting that it was launched deliberately towards our territory,” said the Lithuanian minister.

Additionally, recently in Poland, near the border with Belarus, debris from an unidentified aircraft was discovered.

According to government and defense officials, the most likely explanation is a change in the flight trajectory due to the operation of electronic warfare systems during Russia’s launch of strike drones over Ukraine.
