The Air Force of Lithuania received the Bayraktar TB2 drone along with its ammunition and will soon hand it over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was reported today by the Ministry of National Defense of Lithuania.
The drone along with the ammunition was delivered from Istanbul to Lithuania.
The Defence Department of the Baltic State specified that the weaponry, together with the drone, will soon be handed over to the Ukrainian servicemen.
As previously reported, in June, Lithuania signed a purchase contract with Turkey on the Bayraktar drone for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In honour of Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression Lithuanians joined their efforts to buy an unmanned combat aerial vehicle for Ukraine.
They raised over €5 million in just three and a half days — largely in small amounts.
This was the first time in history when common people raised money to buy a drone to defend another country.
The campaign was initiated by Lithuanian Andrews Tapinas. He launched the campaign on May 25, saying he had agreed to a potential purchase with the defence ministries of Lithuania, Turkey and the manufacturer. The next day a special broadcast was held in its support with the participation of top Lithuanian officials and the Ukrainian ambassador in Lithuania.
The Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicle for Lithuania was named Vanagas, which translates as Hawk.
The Ministry of National Defense of Lithuania procured ammunition for the Bayraktar TB2 UAV, which is transmitted from Lithuania to Ukraine.
