A new military station for an infantry battalion and the National Defence Volunteer Forces was opened in the Lithuanian city of Šiauliai.

The Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence said that this was the third military facility of this scale in the country.

The military station was designed and built with all the necessary infrastructure for a battalion unit, which is purposefully adapted to the modern needs of the army.

The new military station includes administrative and special-purpose buildings, such as barracks, a canteen, headquarters, a medical center, and sports facilities.

Technical facilities were also built: warehouses, garages, a gas station and a car wash.

There are technical areas, as well as parking spaces, including those specially adapted for electric vehicles and people with disabilities.

The military station, which is adapted for permanent residence, is home to about 660 servicemen.

The area of the military station in Šiauliai is 7.8 hectares, and its barracks and headquarters are larger than in similar stations opened in February in Šilalė District Municipality and Rokantiškės in Vilnius.

All three facilities can accommodate a total of 2,400 military and civilian defense personnel.

The total cost of the three campuses in terms of construction, maintenance and services is approximately €231 million.

Each year, about five million euros will be allocated for the maintenance and upkeep of one campus.

In April it became known that the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense was executing comprehensive reinforcement of a number of border sections together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
