At the end of January, the Italian company Leonardo presented in Brescia a concept for ground-based combat against UAVs based on naval artillery systems.

This was reported by EDR Magazine.

The project was named Hystrix, which translates from Latin as “hedgehog” and symbolizes 360-degree circular protection.

The company works with three calibers: 76 mm, 40 mm, and 30×173 mm.

The Hystrix 76 ADS uses the 76/62 Super Rapid naval turret.

The Hystrix 40 ADS is based on the Marlin 40 remote-controlled naval mount.

The Hystrix 30 ADS is based on the new Lionfish 30 naval turret.

All variants are classified as ADS — air defense systems.

Stationary, mobile, and mobile deployment configurations are provided.

Stationary solutions are usually implemented in a container format with remote control.

Mobile integration without significant modifications is currently most realistic for the Hystrix 40 ADS, while a lighter version, the Hystrix 76 ADS Light, is being prepared for the 76 mm.

Recently, Leonardo unveiled a turret for combating mini-drones.
