The Ukrainian military received 20 four-wheel drive vehicles from Latvian volunteers.
The Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Ukraine reported on this.
It is noted that the state-owned company Latvenergo transferred these cars.
They were delivered to Ukraine through the joint efforts of the Latvian organization Bruņotava and the Ziedot.lv Foundation as part of the joint project 100 Cars for Ukraine.
Before the transfer, the used cars were serviced and repaired if necessary.
In addition to pickup trucks and off-road vehicles, Lithuanian volunteers have provided the Ukrainian military with drones, generators, and charging stations.
It is not only Latvian volunteers who supplied vehicles to Ukraine. The state of Latvia itself also makes such deliveries within the framework of the relevant law.
Last December, Militarnyi reported, citing the Latvian State Revenue Service (VID), that Latvia had transferred 612 cars to Ukraine.
They were confiscated from drunk drivers and cost a total of €2.25 million. Some of these vehicles were handed over to the Ukrainian military.
In 2023, the Latvian Saeima unanimously adopted urgent amendments to the Law on Support of Ukrainian Civilians.
These amendments allow for the transfer to Ukraine of vehicles that have become the property of the Latvian state. These include vehicles that have been confiscated from drivers who have driven under the influence of alcohol.
Since these amendments to the law came into force, the Latvian government has made several decisions to transfer confiscated cars to Ukraine.
