Ukrainian developers from the company Justifier Drones have created an FPV interceptor drone that is launched from a carrier drone to increase the range and altitude of interceptions.
The Tysk Telegram channel highlighted this.
The video shows the preparation and launch process for a test flight of the mother drone carrying two air-launched FPV interceptor drones.
The FPV interceptor drone is not designed in the form factor of a traditional quadcopter, but rather resembles a small rocket. The rocket engine is replaced by four propellers, and its shape is similar to the Sting interceptor drone.
The specifications of this drone have not been disclosed; however, it will likely be capable of intercepting reconnaissance drones.
Meanwhile, the use of a mother drone carrying air-launched FPV interceptor drones eliminates the key drawback of quadcopter-type interceptor drones, namely their relatively limited operational range.
Moreover, the carrier drone can remain on patrol in the air, awaiting a target, which significantly enhances the response time for neutralizing enemy drones. This is because the interceptors already possess initial speed and altitude, rather than launching from the ground.
In February 2024, soldiers of the Ajax Unmanned Strike Systems Unit of the 126th Territorial Defense Brigade destroyed a Russian strike drone for the first time using an FPV drone. Since then, this tactic has become increasingly common.
However, large-scale interceptions began following the launch of the Dronefall initiative by the Come Back Alive Foundation and the Heavenly Rusoriz project by volunteer Serhii Sternenko in August 2024. Since then, several thousand Russian reconnaissance drones have been destroyed by interceptor drones.
In early April 2025, one of Ukraine’s interceptor drones, a Shahed-type strike UAV, was officially presented to a Belgian delegation.
Then, in mid-May, the first video of an interceptor drone engaging a Shahed drone was released. At that time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces deployed the Sting interceptor drone to combat Russian-Iranian Shahed-type strike UAVs.
As of mid-May, the Darknode unit of the 412th Nemesis Regiment has already destroyed 100 enemy Shahed and Gerbera kamikaze drones using interceptor drones.
