The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson has offered Volodymyr Zelensky a major training program for the Ukrainian servicemen in the United Kingdom.
This was discussed during Boris Johnson’s visit to Kyiv, the press service of the British Government reports.
The United Kingdom military could train up to 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers every 120 days.
Each soldier would spend three weeks on the training course, learning battle winning skills for the front line, as well as basic medical training, cyber-security, and counter explosive tactics.
“As Ukrainian soldiers fire UK missiles in defence of your nation’s sovereignty, they do so also in defence of the very freedoms we take for granted. That is why I have offered President Zelenskyy a major new military training programme that could change the equation of this war,” Boris Johnson said.
The Office of the President of Ukraine confirmed that defense and security remain the main topics of the negotiations. During the meeting, the leaders of the countries discussed in detail the situation at the frontline.
“We talked about the need to increase the heavy weapons supply. The key issue today is to provide air defense for Ukraine. We’re starting to move in this direction. Russian missiles remain a threat to our people, Ukraine’s land… Obviously, ensuring protection against Russian missiles should be among the top priorities for all of us, for our partners. It will be a guarantee of life for the people on most of our territory,” President Zelensky said.
The leaders discussed increasing sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation, unblocking Ukrainian ports for grain exports, and the results of the Rammstein-3 meeting.
The parties also continued to work on security guarantees for Ukraine, which should bring stability not only to this country, but also to Europe and the world.
The UK has already pledged more than £1.3bn in economic and humanitarian support to Ukraine – including more than 5,000 NLAW anti-tank missiles, long-range multiple launch rocket systems, and artillery systems including 155mm Self Propelled Guns.
As previously reported, the United Kingdom redeemed Belgian M109 self-propelled howitzers from a private arms company for Ukraine.
